Module 2: Strengths

At this point in the program, it’s a great time to do a strengths review.

A strengths review is an opportunity to reflect on what you have learnt about yourself so far. Can you identify where you can make changes? What are the things that are blocking your path, and what are the opportunities that will allow you to get where you want to be?

Strengths

Strengths are things you consider yourself to be good at? This can be talents, positive values, current skills, things you do really well and things you love about yourself.

Weaknesses

Weaknesses are things that you think hold you back? Maybe you don’t have your licence, or you live in an area with no work. Perhaps you feel you’re not ready to begin work or that you don’t have the skills to do a particular job that you would want to do.

Opportunities

These are things that are right in front of you that can help give you a kick start in the right direction. Maybe you can connect with a person who works in a job you would like to have a go at. Perhaps you know of some work experience available or training you could take part in immediately.

Blocks

Are there any things stopping you from taking the next step in getting exactly what you want workwise? Lack of confidence? Lack of motivation? By pointing out these specific blocks you can help yourself work out a way past them or seek out ways of fixing them.

How you can use this knowledge:

Make better decisions

Both short-term and long-term decisions can be based around our strengths review and where you’re at.

Know yourself

Feel comfortable with yourself and know that you are doing your best to live your happiest life.

Goal setting

If you have discovered opportunities, turn them into realistic goals to help you on your way to your new vision.

Below are 4 areas for you to enter your SWOB information: your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and blocks.

The other sections that you have completed on confidence, communication, personal qualities and skills may help you in this section.

Module 2: Skills

Skills are the physical things you know you’re good at and that employers love.

For example: coordinating things, maths, planning and organising are all great skills. Just like your personal qualities, knowing your skills is an important part of selling yourself to an employer. They are incredibly helpful when it comes to writing your resume, during interviews and as a confidence booster.

How you can use this knowledge:

In your Resume

List the most appropriate skills you have that match the job you’re applying for in your resume.

In Interviews

Being able to talk about yourself openly and confidently is a huge advantage and employers appreciate it.

Bettering yourself

Knowing what you’re good at can help you discover areas you could improve. This may even help you get into a job you really want.

Building confidence

Knowing what skills you have helps you feel energised, confident and prepared to take on a new job role.

Just like the last questionnaire where you identified your personal qualities, now it’s time to select the skills that you think you have.

This process will allow you to get a clear picture of your abilities so you can understand your worth. Once you see all the things that you excel at, you will get a real confidence boost and this awesome list of things will help you find work that will energise you.

Module 2: Personal Qualities

Your qualities as a person are what make you, uniquely you.

They are behaviours, traits and attributes that an employer looks for as strengths that you can bring to a job, for example – funny, kind and clever. Everyone in the world has qualities that make them special and incredible, and you’re no different! While the people around you could tell you in a second what makes you great, can you see those abilities for yourself? Knowing your personal qualities is an important part of selling yourself to an employer. You can use them in your resume, in interviews and as a confidence boost to help you know that you will be great at a job.

How you can use this knowledge:

On your Resume

List the most appropriate qualities you have that match the job you’re applying for in your applications.

In interviews

Being able to talk about yourself openly and confidently in an interview is a huge advantage and employers appreciate it.

To build confidence

Knowing what qualities you have helps you feel energised, confident and prepared to take on a new job role.

In this activity, you will uncover your personal qualities.

It is important to understand who you are and use this information to sell yourself in your job applications. There are many different qualities here, so take your time and select the ones you think describe you.

Module 2: More on Anchors

Progress

Now that you have listed your negative or unresourceful anchors you can go ahead and do the opposite.

List any positive anchors you have in your life. Once you have identified a positive or resourceful anchor, repeat the process you did with your unresourceful anchor, explore what you are feeling, what you are telling yourself or seeing in your mind. Just like when you were building confidence, write what you are experiencing.  Most likely you’re seeing, feeling or hearing something when that trigger is fired.

Example of a positive anchor: “There is a song that my friends and I loved when we were in school. Whenever I hear it, it immediately takes me back there and makes me happy.”
